Brake Repair

The leading cause of traffic accidents is brake failure. WOW! And brake failure is nearly always preventable. Stop worrying about potential failures and enjoy peace of mind. Come in for a brake inspection. Jim Dickinson Auto Tech is a brake specialist offering both inspections and brake repair.

We will check:

Headlights, park and tail lights, turn signals, brake lights and reverse lights

Pads and shoes for wear

Drums and rotors for wear

Wheel cylinders and calipers for leaks

Hydraulic lines and hoses for leaks and kinks

Fluid in the master cylinder for level and condition.

We can also fabricate and install replacement steel brake line sections or complete systems if they are severely corroded or rusted through and have started leaking. If you have a leak in your brake system have your vehicle towed in for brake repair as it is no longer capable of stopping properly.

We recommend servicing rear drum brake assemblies every 10,000 kilometres or annually.  Remove dust, lubricate backing plates and adjust shoes to drum clearance and check parking brake performance.  Your disc brake assemblies should be disassembled every 30,000 kilometres or 18 months to remove rust and corrosion from brake pads and guides and lubricate slide assemblies. If equipped service miniature rear brake shoe assemblies at the same time. This timely service will prevent brake pads from sticking in their guides and prematurely wearing out and warping the rotors resulting in an expensive brake repair.  Fuel economy is reduced with dragging brakes.  Your brake fluid should be flushed out every 2 years to prevent moisture buildup that lowers the boiling point of the brake fluid and rusts components internally.  We routinely bleed brake components during every reline to remove harmful moisture.

Checking your brake system regularly will often save you in the long run. Replacing worn pads before they damage the disks or drums is a modest cost. If you wait until your car is sounding like a streetcar, you will likely need a more extensive brake repair and have a higher cost.

If any work is necessary, we will give you a choice of parts. A better grade of materials (pads for example) may be one of the best bargains around. They will last longer and perform better then standard grades. You are in control. Both here at Jim Dickinson Auto Tech and on the road when the need arises.
